Westcore Hires Michael Gerding, CFA
Portfolio Manager to develop
International Investment Offerings
December 4, 1999Westcore Funds/Denver
Investment Advisors is pleased to announce Michael Gerding, CFA, former Founders Passport
Fund manager, has joined its investment management team as of December 1, 1999.
With the addition of Mr. Gerding, who has 14 years of
international investment management experience, Westcore Funds and Denver Investment
Advisors will begin offering international investment products to the institutional,
401(k) and consumer markets. He will open a new international small-cap growth fund in
December.
"Denver Investment Advisors was exactly the kind of
company I was looking to join. Its a firm that is big enough to give me the
resources to develop a world-class international effort, but small enough to still have
that entrepreneurial edge." said Mike Gerding.
Mr. Gerding created and managed the Founders Passport Fund
and International Equity Fund and managed Founders Worldwide Growth Fund from 1990 until
he left Founders in June of this year. He was chosen as one of the worlds top 100
money managers by Barrons in 1997* and, under his watch, the Worldwide Growth
Fund was voted as the best Global Equity Fund by Worth Magazine in
1995*.
"For several years now, we have been looking for the
right person to create an international investment offering. Finding Mike was key to
enabling us to develop products in that area. Hes a proven success in the
international investment style, and will be a great complement to our firm." said
Kenneth V. Penland, President of Westcore Funds and Chairman of Denver Investment
Advisors.
Through Westcore Funds, individual investors gain access to
the extensive research, investment experience, and fund management expertise more often
available to large corporations and foundations. Denver Investment Advisors, the
Funds advisor, is an institutional money manager with over 40 years experience
and $7.5 billion in total assets** under management. The 100% no-load Westcore
Fund family consists of six equity funds, three bond funds, and a non-proprietary money
market fund.

* Barron?s named Michael Gerding one
of the top 100 money managers in the "Simply the Best" article
published July 21, 1997 to reward outstanding stock pickers who look at a
broad selection of stocks and measure the value added by each mutual fund
manager. The rating system excluded sector funds, country funds, index
funds, bond funds, team-managed funds and fund managers in place less than
three years. The system accounted for risk by subtracting points for
volatile years and adding points for performance stability. Each fund was
compared to other funds with similar investment goals for the full term of
the current manager.
* Worth Magazine sited the
Founders Worldwide Growth Fund as the Best Global Equity Fund in November
1995 by selecting a diversified group of top-notch consistent performing
funds. The minimum requirement included funds with at least a five-year
track record and a minimum of $25 million in net assets. The global funds
category included only funds with at least 40% of investments outside the
United States. The selection criteria was based on five-year total return
(performance); standard deviation, beta and turnover (risk); and
consistency (predictability).
**These assets include total assets of the
advisor as well as mutual fund assets.
