The Soccer Fever Spreads at
Westcore Funds Mile High SoccerFest
July 28, 1999—In the afterglow of the
U.S. Women’s World Cup victory, signs of soccer-mania can be spotted all over
Colorado. This August 6-8th, the Littleton Soccer Club will be hosting the
Westcore Funds Mile High SoccerFest showcasing local and national budding talent in one of
the fastest growing sports for male and female athletes alike.
Approximately 100 teams from around the county will be
traveling to compete in this 1st Annual Westcore Funds Mile High SoccerFest.
Players will range in age from 9 to 18 years. "While Littleton Soccer Club was always
in an area that seemed to be drawn to soccer, over the last 5 years the interest in this
sport has seemed to grow even stronger here," says Dave Clouatre, tournament
director. "I’ve seen the level of play and the level of instruction improve
tremendously—and kids are starting younger, developing their skills to new
heights."
With an injection of excitement about soccer, a high number
of teams will compete on two field locations in Littleton. The locations are Cornerstone
Park with seven playing fields and Cherry Knolls Park with four fields.
"Summertime in the Colorado Rockies combined with the
enthusiasm over the sport of soccer adds a special treat to out-of-state visitors
traveling to compete in this tournament," says Mil Schulhof, a fund manager for
Westcore Funds. "As a proud soccer parent and coach, I couldn’t be more excited
to see this event take off. And, Westcore Funds is eager to sponsor an event that
encourages youth to excel in our community."
